This week’s post is a little late, but I wanted to write about the “Find Your Joy” author event held Saturday at the Huron Library.
I mentioned a few weeks ago the library had reached out to me back in February and asked if I’d participate in this event. I’d have the opportunity to sell my books and give a 20-minute presentation on my writing journey and where I find joy in the process.
If anyone knows me, they know public speaking isn’t my strong suit. I’ve been practicing my presentation every weekend for weeks now to make sure I wouldn’t get up there and just freeze.

Although I tried my hardest not to talk too fast, I still finished much sooner than my allotted time. But I’ve never heard anyone complain about a presentation being too short! 😉
While I talked, I saw a lot of nods and smiles from the audience, and I could tell by the looks on some of their faces, they related to my writing journey. I had several people come up to me after and tell me exactly that, and others not only told me I did a good job, but they then bought one or both of my books. So I must have done okay!

There was one man who came to the event, he wasn’t one of the presenting authors, but he came to my table after my speech and told me he was really into writing poetry. He showed me some of his work, and he asked if he could write a poem about me – he’d have it done in five minutes. I told him to go for it and this is what he wrote:

I was honestly impressed!! It literally took him five minutes to write that. He wanted to keep the original, but I was glad he let me take a picture of it so I could have a copy. It was an excellent example of some of the talent that room held today.
I loved listening to the other authors and their journeys as well. A common theme among all the speakers was that we all wrote characters or stories based on our personal experiences in some way. They reflected our own personalities, and even though all of our voices are different, we all share that same passion.
I definitely felt like I was in a room full of my kind of people today and it was a pretty good feeling. I’ve been slacking a bit on my writing lately, and this might have lit a fire in me to start making more time for it. Maybe I’ll finally finish book #3 before the next event lol!
Overall, it was a great day, and it was truly an honor to be invited to be a part of it. I look forward to future opportunities to share my work and passion with more and more readers to come.
Until next time! 🙂

Nice work, Megan! It’s one thing to write the book and something completely different to stand up in front of people and talk about the book and the process! You are brave and courageous! ☺️
