No Excuses – Get Moving!

This week I’d like to talk some more about my week in Memphis, but from a different angle.

Everyone reading this knows exercise is super important to me. Not a secret! I make it a habit to do SOMETHING everyday, even if it’s just going for a walk.

So leading up to our week in Memphis, I was making plans for how and when I was going to get my workouts in every day. Memphis isn’t the super safest city in the world, so I didn’t think running outside every day was going to be an option. I was lucky to get out the day of the 5K – and there was a lot of police presence for that!

I tried checking out the hotel website to see what the gym situation looked like, but for weeks leading up to the conference, their website just said their gym was temporarily unavailable. It ended up being under construction while we were there, so definitely unavailable.

This didn’t leave me with a lot of workout options!

But going a full week without exercise wasn’t going to be an option for me. I told my coworkers I’d probably end up punching someone, and it was better for everyone if I could just take out any frustrations with exercise instead of on people.

So, I ended up packing a yoga mat with me and I’d get up early in the morning and do body weight workouts in my room. I had to push the furniture around to make room, and other than the 5K, I didn’t get much cardio in, but it was a week to focus on building strength instead. And I was okay with that! I have several different workout apps I use, and I’d do a little yoga, and a little body weight strength building, and there were even a few days I was pretty sore!

And I know strength workouts are important, but I find them incredibly boring, so I wasn’t exactly looking forward to doing it every day for a week. It was also an exhausting week of working 12+ hours a day, I didn’t sleep well at night, and I was away from home – on top of not having a lot of work out options. It would have been SO easy to use all those excuses to do nothing and take the week off. But my health and wellness is too important to me to not even try to make it work. There are no excuses!!

So, take a look at the excuses you’re giving yourself not to get into a regular exercise routine? Are they just that: excuses?? If it’s truly important to you, you’ll make the time and effort. So get moving!

Until next time! 🙂
