Swimming Through Life

Life’s Ups and Downs

They say life is full of ups and downs and this week was a pretty good example of that roller coaster ride. It was both a wonderful week and an absolutely terrible week.

It started with a little day trip to Tyler on Sunday for my niece’s baptism. Molly and Tanner asked Dan and myself to be the Godparents, and I was so honored and excited to fill the role. The weather was a bit iffy Sunday morning with thick fog and icy roads, but we made it just in the nick of time for the service.

Little Tessa is so easy going and she was so good during the service. Didn’t even freak out when the Priest dumped water on her head, she just sat there and smiled. Dan and I were thrilled to be part of the day, and we can’t wait to watch her grow, and spoil her along the way.

Not only was I excited to be Tessa’s Godmother, but it’s not every day Dan wears a tie. It was a great day all around! 🙂
I had to share this photo too because Tessa just took the baptism cloth from the Priest herself and I thought it was funny that Dan, Molly, and I all had the same reaction haha.

Overall, it was a fun weekend celebrating Tessa, and it was nice to catch up with Tanner’s family as well. 🙂

When we got back home, that’s when shit started hitting the fan. It’s no secret that there’s a flu bug going around, and we all started dropping like flies. Most of Tanner’s family got it and most of my family got it as well. Somehow, Dan and Tanner were the only ones who managed to not get sick. And let me tell you: IT WAS AWFUL.

I probably say it every time I have the flu, but I truly mean it this time. I don’t remember the last time I was THAT sick. I couldn’t hold anything down for almost 12 hours. Tuesday was the worst for me. I had to stay home from work and leaving the couch felt like a workout. I told my dad that morning I was willing to sell my left kidney to hold down a glass of water. I was so dehydrated and miserable. Dan would tell me I’m being dramatic, but I thought I might actually die that day lol.

I only stayed home from work one day, and I’ve slowly been getting better and not feeling as weak. And while I write this, I actually feel pretty darn hungry, so I’d say that’s a pretty good sign.

Luckily, by Thursday, my sister and I were over the worst part of the sickness and feeling good enough. And good thing too cuz we had tickets to go see Scotty McCreery in Brookings that night!

Molly LOVES Scotty McCreery. Just ask her. He’s “her boy” – and Luke Combs is “her MAN” 😉.

Anyway, Molly, Tanner, Dan and I had gotten the tickets a few months ago and we actually got really good seats. We were in row 4 which is probably the closest I’ve ever been to the stage at a concert. We could practically see the sweat on Scotty’s face!

It was so much fun. What a quick turn around from being absolutely miserable one day to being on top of the world the next.

It felt like a good representation of what life is as a whole. Some days suck. You don’t know how you could possibly live through something, but it’s almost always temporary. No matter how hard what you’re going through is, there are brighter days ahead. Just keep on pushing until you get there.

I’m ready to go catch up on some much needed sleep now!

Until next time! 🙂
