Below the Surface Response

I just gotta take a minute to say how incredibly thankful I am for the overwhelming support I’ve had over the last year and half with Sink or Swim, and now with Below the Surface as well. I love when y’all message me pictures of my books coming in the mail, and when you tell me you couldn’t put it down and you read the entire thing in a day or two. Writing a book can be a lot of fun, but it’s also a lot of work, and to hear that people are enjoying it, makes me so incredibly happy!

I’ve even had people at work bring me their copies and they all seem genuinely excited for me. They even did a spotlight on my book for our monthly Women of NATE newsletter, and I had people from all over the industry – and the country! – telling me they were excited to check it out.

AND the Aberdeen Magazine reached out to me this week and they want to interview me for an article they are doing for their next edition, which is super exciting! The interview will take place next week, so I’ll keep you posted when it’ll be published if you want to check it out.

It’s safe to say I’m feeling the love y’all, and I can’t even begin to tell you how thankful I am.

This second book has been a bit of a different ride than the first one as I’m trying to take a different approach with my marketing. With Sink or Swim, I focused heavily on Amazon ads, but if you’ve ever used Amazon ads before you know it can be very, very tricky to hit that sweet spot. Back in March, Amazon actually turned my ads off because they said I was no longer “relevant” and I’ve had a heck of a time trying to get back on the grid, to no success. Eventually, I decided it wasn’t worth jumping through all those hoops. Yes, I was selling pretty consistently with them going, but it cost waaaaaay more to keep up than I was bringing in, and it just didn’t make sense to keep them up.

For the last few months, I’ve been working on querying for a literary agent to represent me so I could potentially publish through a publishing house. They would take all the marketing efforts off my hands, and all’s I would have to do is focus on the writing part! So far, it hasn’t come to fruition yet, as I have been rejected by 27 agents now. While it’s discouraging, I know how subjective they are and how many hundreds of books I must be going up against. But I’m not giving up!! You know how many of your favorite authors were rejected a couple dozen times before they finally found the one? A lot more than you think. So, I’m going to keep grinding and hope my time comes soon.

For now, I’m thankful for the support I have and the word of mouth that has carried my titles to where they’ve been. After all, my goal was to publish a book, and I’ve already checked that part off the list. The rest is just a bonus!

Finally, for those who have read my books, leaving a review on Amazon would also greatly help spread the word and if you could take a few minutes to drop a comment, I’d so very much appreciate it!

Thanks again everybody, and keep being awesome!!

Until next time! 🙂
