I haven’t talked about my boy, Dobby, in a while. He’s still here and doing well! Although, it’s become pretty clear lately that my little boy is turning into an old man. And despite the fact that I’ve told him many times he’s not allowed to get old, he insists on doing it anyway.
He’s turning a bit more gray every day, and I think he has six or seven old man lumps now. They’re just fatty cysts and pretty common in older dogs, but each time I find a new one, it hits me a little more that he’s definitely not a pup anymore.
He’s had a bad leg for as long as I’ve had him, and I’ve never really been able to take him for runs; but sometimes when I’m crunched for time, I could squeak out a mile, mile and a half with him and he’d be okay. Those days are definitely done now. This last winter, I tried to take him for a quick mile, and he was definitely hurting by the end. He limps a lot more frequently now, and I know he’s likely going to keep slowing down more and more. We’ll just be walking from here on out.
He still tries to act like a young pup though! Still gets the zoomies around the backyard and does his daily patrol along the fence looking for intruders and bunnies. He acts like a psycho when he knows he’s about to get a treat – or really any kind of food really. He definitely lives to eat!
And he’s always been the world’s best snuggler. He’s probably gotten even snugglier in his old age. And I’ll take all the snuggles I can get.

I have no idea how much time we have left with my old man, but I’m hoping we still have quite a few years left. He’s the best boy and has filled my heart in more ways than I can count.
Once again, if you are thinking about adopting a pet, I strongly encourage you to rescue if you can. Dobby was very troubled when I first brought him home and there were a lot of bad habits we had to break. I can’t blame him as much for that as I can the people who raised him before me. They obviously didn’t care about him very much. But he’s come such a long way since then, and has turned into the sweetest boy. And I’m so glad I was able to give him a warm and happy life.
Here’s to hopefully, many, many more years with my big ol’ fur baby!
Until next time! 🙂
