Said “Yes” to the Dress!

Dan and I got engaged a little over a month ago now, and so far, the wedding planning process has been pretty exciting! I’m starting to check things off the list in preparation, and today, I checked off a big one: I found my wedding dress!! With the wedding being less than a year away, and wedding dresses taking several months to prepare, I knew I couldn’t wait TOO long to start shopping around. I went into today with an open mind, hoping to find the perfect one, but also not making myself feel like I HAD to if nothing spoke to me.

I was so freaking excited for today, I can’t deny it! Growing up, I’ve always dreamed about what the wedding planning process would look like, and I always wondered what kind of dress I would ultimately end up choosing. I did do some”browsing” of different dresses – admittedly I started looking quite a long time before we even got engaged. I was too excited no to! So, I did at least have an idea of what I liked and didn’t like.

For today, I had made two different bridal appointments at two different stores in Sioux Falls. Three of my bridesmaids and my mom were free this weekend as well, and were able to come join me! They helped me pick a few dresses out and I started trying them on right away. The first two dresses I tried on, I really liked, and I started to wonder how I was ever going to decide. I tried on a couple I didn’t like as much, and then probably the 6th dress or so I tried on, I took one look in the mirror and there was no doubt in my mind I had just found “the one.” All thoughts of the other dresses I had tried on earlier were gone, and I didn’t feel like I needed to try on anymore – I didn’t even want to take it off! I felt so pretty, and it checked off all the boxes I was looking for. It was perfect. We even ended up canceling the second appointment, I was sold on this one.

Leading up to today, I was excited yes, but I was also nervous. I was nervous I would be too picky, or not pick one that was clearly “the one” because I wanted to see what else was out there. And honestly, this might sound a little cheesy, but once I had my dress on, it was love at first sight. I felt the magic of it, and knew that anything else I tried on, I would just compare it to that one. In a way, finding the perfect dress is a lot like finding the perfect husband. Something clicks and you just know you’ve found the one.

Today will definitely go in the record books as a really great day. And it wouldn’t have been nearly as fun without all of these lovely ladies with me. I’m so glad they could share the moment with me, and I’m so excited for them to join me on the wedding planning journey, and be by my side on the big day!

Only 272 days until the big day – but who’s counting? 😉

Until next time! 🙂
