Swimming Through Life

Another Blog About Dobby :)

I’ve written a million blog posts about my pup, Dobby, and here comes another. Thursday night, I brought Dobby over to my parent’s house to stay, so my mom could drop him off at the kennel the next morning since I had to drop my car off at the shop. I think in the three years I’ve had him, this was the first time I’ve been home and he hasn’t been there, and let me tell you: I didn’t like it.

Dobby has been there since I’ve moved back to South Dakota, and in a lot of ways, he rescued me just as much as I rescued him. We had both just come from less than ideal situations, and we helped each other heal and become whole again.

And recently, Dan’s been busy farming and has been gone a lot, so a lot of nights it’s just been me and Dobs. I don’t think I could have stayed alone if it wasn’t for him! He makes me feel safe and even though he doesn’t talk back, he gives me someone to talk to. It’s not nearly as lonely with him there.

So, the night I didn’t have him, it just didn’t feel right. I was making supper and every time I opened the fridge or opened a package I expected him to come running around the corner and when he didn’t, it made me kind of sad. Even Dan made a comment that it was weird eating supper without a drooling dog staring at us. The whole night I felt like something was missing, and I hope I don’t have to find out what it’s like to be without Dobby for real, for a long, long time.

And while I’m on the topic, I want to take this opportunity to say if rescuing a pet has been on your mind lately, do it!! They are the best anti-depressant there is and you’ve got a built in best friend too. And odds are, they need someone to love just as much as you do.

I overheard someone complaining the other day about how much work a rescue animal can be, which can be true, but trust me, it’s worth it. And maybe if we all learned to respect living things and not treat them like dirt, they wouldn’t be as much work to begin with – but that’ll get me going on a whole new tangent.

Anyway, long story short: I love my dog, I can’t imagine my life without him, and I’m so glad we found each other. And I’ll never stop encouraging people to adopt!!

Can’t tell me that cute face wouldn’t make your day!
He’s the best little hand holder
Not pictured is the big pool of drool about to fall out of his mouth
Also if you’ve ever wanted to feel judged on how you clean the bathroom, they’re apparently good for that too! 😂

Until next time! 🙂
