Writing Update – First Draft Done!

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about Sink or Swim, and I feel like now is as good a time as any to give y’all a little update on where I’m at in the writing world. I haven’t had any book events lately, but that’s okay. I’m keeping my eye open for more, and am hoping to continue to learn how to get my book in front of more people.

I’ve been experimenting with Amazon Ads for a while now. It’s basically it’s own kind of science that takes lots and lots of trial and error to get it right. I’ve done a lot of reading on the topic, and I’m hoping I’ve got them on the right track currently. I’m up to 14 reviews on Amazon now, which isn’t much, but every time I see a new one pop up, I get super excited! I also got my first bad review last month. I knew it would come sooner or later, it was only a matter of time. It stung a bit, but I can’t please everyone, and I can’t take it personally. It’s not going to be the last bad review I get, so I’m learning to take them with a grain of salt.

I’ve had a lot of people asking me about book #2 recently, and I’m happy to say that I finally finished the first draft this week!!! It’s going to be a few months yet before it’s out in the world, but I’m hoping to send it off to an editor VERY soon and get it rolling. If anyone out there feels like being a beta reader for me, I’ll need some feedback in the next couple of weeks. I might even promise you a free copy if you are willing to help a girl out! 😉

As much as I have loved writing these stories, and learning more about how to be a successful writer, it can be a bit overwhelming at times. Especially since my time to write and research can be pretty limited between work, working out, and living in general. There have been times where I use my free time to write, and then I feel guilty for not researching more about ads; and there are times where I’m researching and working on my ads, where I then feel guilty that I’m not writing! And obviously there are those days where I’m tired, and I feel like my brain needs a break to do nothing, and I feel guilty for not using my free time to get some more work done. It’s a constant battle, I tell ya. I saw this quote on Facebook the other day where it said: Being a writer is like having homework every day for the rest of your life – and I could not agree with that statement more!

And while somedays it does feel like work, there are plenty more days where I still love everything about it. Everyone gets frustrated with even their most passionate projects and hobbies at some point. It’s normal! It’s okay to set it aside for a day or two to take a break, and by then I’m more than ready to hop back in and get to work!

Stay tuned for more updates on book #2. It’ll be out before you know it, and I can’t wait!

Until next time! 🙂

  1. Hello! I have just read your first book today during my first day on vacation in Norway and didn’t stop! I am a brit who swam competitively for 15 years ending as a NCAA D1 swimmer. If you are looking for beta readers still I’d be more than happy to read a digital copy and provide feedback 🙂

    1. Hi there! Sorry it took so long to respond. I don’t always get notified of comments, so sometimes I don’t see them. I would love to have you take a look at book #2 if you are still willing!? Let me know!
