Thankful

I was again struggling to come up with something to write about this week. I’ve had a lot of thoughts and feelings heavy on my heart lately, and I get so hyper focused on things sometimes, it’s hard to make space for other stuff.

I was talking to Dan and again asked him for help coming up with something to write about. I covered all my knowledge on coyote hunting last time I asked him for help, so thankfully he suggested something different this time. 😉

He told me to focus instead on all the things going right in my life, and all the things I have to be thankful for right now. And with Thanksgiving coming up, it seems a fitting time to talk about that.

First and most importantly, I’m so thankful for Dan. I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it a million more. I’ll never not be thankful he came into my life. He’s my biggest supporter, best friend, shoulder to cry on, and so much more. No matter what life throws at us, there’s no one I’d rather go through it with than him.

A couple of weeks ago, he installed a doggy door into our garage door so Dobby could stay outside as it gets colder out and go in and out of the warm garage as he pleases. I didn’t ask him to, he just did it. He said he knows how much Dobby means to me and knows he’ll be happier being outside than cooped up inside all day. It meant a lot to me, and even though Dan insists he only “tolerates” Dobby, I think deep down, he has a soft spot for him.

That leads me into the next thing I’m thankful for: Dobby! I love this dog like he’s my own child. He is 100% spoiled rotten and I don’t mind one bit. He deserves the world!

I’m most thankful for him when Dan is away at the farm. He keeps me company and helps keep me safe. I let him sleep in the bed with me when Dan is gone, and he snuggles as close to me as he can. Sometimes he’s a bit of a bed hog, but when I wake up in the middle of the night and he’s still snuggled up to me, it makes me smile. He’s the best boy.

I’m also very thankful for my family and how close we are. While I loved my time on the East coast, it was hard only getting to see my family once or twice a year and missing out on a lot of memories. Now, Dan and I have supper with my parents every week and I see them at run club once or twice a week too.

I’m really close with my siblings and I love being close enough to see my niece and nephews. Although it’s been a while since I’ve gotten some kiddo time – we might have to fix that! My sister FaceTimes me pretty regularly so I can chat with the kids and I love how excited they are to share things with me. My brother and I don’t talk as often, but when we do, we talk for a long time. I talked to him on the phone for almost an hour and a half last weekend and it was wonderful. I love them both so much.

That makes a pretty good start on what I’m thankful for. I’ll be back next week for part two as we gear up for Thanksgiving. Tis the season to be thankful, after all!

Until next time! 🙂
