Little Getaway

This weekend, Dan and I decided to get out of town for a little while and escape from the hustle and bustle. I didn\’t have to work on Friday, and Dan only had to work half a day, so midday we took off for Sica Hollow. Dan is basically a Sica expert at this point, and I had never been there before, so I let him lead the way!

We got a few hours of hiking in on Friday evening, hiking one of the paths and checking out the plants and the critters we\’d see. Dan kept saying that it was a bit disappointing this go around, because it\’s an in-between season for most of the flowers there. Most of the early flowers were done blooming, and most of the late flowers weren\’t ready to pop yet. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the scenery, the exercise, and of course the great company. 🙂

\"\"
I love little waterfalls like this. I think they\’re so pretty and peaceful! There were a whole bunch all over Sica.
\"\"
Found this little lady flying around some of the flowers. Dan said it is NOT a Monarch. Can\’t remember what he said it was called though… 🙂
\"\"
Can you see the Tree Frog sun bathing on the leaf? We found a few of these guys, and I thought they were super cute!

Around supper time, we made our way over to Roy Lake where we would be camping that night. The drive there was on some back roads in the country, and we got to enjoy the beautiful scenery some more. The rolling prairie is so pretty, and I could honestly sit out there all day.

\"\"
It was raining on and off throughout our hike on Friday, but it wasn\’t coming down very hard, and it felt pretty good at that point anyway!
\"\"
Made a few stops along the way to Roy Lake to check out some birds and plants. Dan\’s checking out these cool little bird houses they had lined up along the fence.
\"\"
We located our camp site at Roy Lake, and we were right on the water! It was such a pretty spot.

Unfortunately, our camping experience wasn\’t as good as the hiking experience. Those storm clouds that were looming over us during our hike? They turned into several full blown storms throughout the night. And guess who didn\’t realize their tent didn\’t have a rain guard until we were already there? Yeah, it was me. Guilty.

\"\"
Yep, we got the whole thing set up and then realized there was no rain guard. We had to sleep in the truck! 🙁

So, even though we had to sleep in the truck, and neither one of us got a good night\’s sleep, we were able to laugh about it and still make the most of it. I plugged my phone in, set up Netflix (we surprisingly had great service out there!) and we watched TV until we went to bed. The whole time, it was pouring rain outside. In the morning, we planned on making some cinnamon rolls over the fire for breakfast, and we were joking the whole time they were baking that these cinnamon rolls were going to redeem our camping experience. Then we laughed and cried when they got burnt to a crisp! We had to have chips for breakfast ha!

By then, we were over the whole camping thing, and we went back to Sica Hollow to hike some more. We hiked for a few more hours, covering over four miles of straight up and down landscape. We were on the hunt for some interesting plants and wildlife, so we couldn\’t just stick to the boring trail! We found some more tree frogs, but otherwise, we weren\’t able to find much else the second day, but it was still a great time!

\"\"
We set up the timer on my phone to take a cute picture of us, but when Dan ran back and sat down, he bumped me enough where I couldn\’t stay on the rock on my own! That\’s why I\’m hanging on for dear life here. I still got wet though ha!

So, even though our camping experience didn\’t exactly go as planned, I still had a really great little trip with Dan. The hiking was great, and at least on Saturday, the weather was perfect! I can\’t wait to have more adventures with Dan, and make tons more memories together. 🙂

Hope everyone has a great week!

Until next time! 🙂
