It\’s Our Birthday!

I wanted to dedicate this blog post to my best friend and twin sister, Molly, because it is our birthday today! Happy happy birthday sissy!!

Growing up with a twin sister is the best experience anyone could have, and I truly feel sorry for all you single kids out there. From the moment we were born, I had a lifelong best friend that I couldn\’t get rid of even if I wanted to. She\’s always been there for me, and I try to always be there for her as well, even though we now live half a country away from each other. It\’s really hard being away from my sister, but I have tons of memories growing up with her, and Molly, to quote Kelly Clarkson: \”My life would suck without you!\”

I\’ll admit when I was young, I didn\’t like being a twin. Everyone would always ask me if liked being a twin, and I would say: \”No, I have to share everything with Molly, and she never leaves me alone!\” I\’m sure she felt the same way for a while. We were in the same class only up until the second grade, and then my mom decided to put us in separate classes to allow us to branch out a bit. I think that\’s when I realized how much having a twin sister around meant to me, and I was starting to wish we could be together all the time again. You never realize how good you\’ve got it until you don\’t have it anymore. But, at least it was only grade school and we could still hang out at recess and after school.

Throughout middle school and high school it was the same. We didn\’t have any classes together, but we had many similar friends that we would hang out with. For being twins, we were very different from each other, and our after school activities often differed from each other. She ran track and cross country all through high school that kept her busy, and I had swimming every day after school. Even so, if one of us went somewhere, usually the other came with. She came to some of my swim meets, and I went to some of her track/cross country meets to cheer her on. Where there was one twin, usually the other wasn\’t far behind. Every night we would sit at the table together and do our homework, often finding many distractions that had us laughing our heads off, it\’s amazing we got anything done!

Today, we live on opposite ends of the country, but I still feel as though we are closer now than we have ever been. She has come out to visit me a couple of times (not as often as I would like her to come visit!), and when we are down and going through difficult times, we are always one phone call away. Like earlier this summer when I lost my job, Molly would call me and give me weekly pep talks to prevent me from going crazy. Of course those pep talks almost always included, \”Well there are plenty of jobs out here in South Dakota! Looks like you\’ll just have to come back home!\” Nice try sneaky pants! Someday, maybe I will come back home, but I don\’t feel like my time here in Virginia is over just yet.

Next summer, my sister is getting married to Tanner Thooft. I think he is the luckiest guy on planet earth to get to marry someone like Molly. She\’s the total package, and I\’m not just saying that because I have to. She is the most loyal, caring, and the funniest person I know, who\’s laugh alone could make you fall into a laughter fit. She\’s super smart and dedicated, and the only thing she steals is your clothes out of your closet 😉 You\’re lucky to have her Tanner, and she\’s lucky to have you too. I couldn\’t imagine a better fit for her, especially since you know how to deal with her in the mornings (you\’re a God send!).

A few months ago when I was back home, we went wedding dress shopping, and Molly found her dress. I didn\’t really expect to get emotional, but I did tear up a little when she found the one. It\’s hard to believe that we are actually old enough to be getting married! Molly, you\’re going to make a beautiful bride, and the best wife. That\’s all I\’ll say about that for now, got to save some words for my maid of honor speech! 😉

If you don\’t have a friend like Molly in your life, I encourage you to go out and find one. She makes my life a better place. Happy birthday Molly and I hope you have the best day ever. I love you very very much and miss you just as much.
