Happy New Year, y’all! I’m looking forward to all 2026 has in store, and I’m hopeful that it’ll be even better than 2025 was.
I’m not typically one to make New Year’s resolutions, and I’ve never chosen a word to represent the year ahead – but I think I might change that this year.
After some thought, I decided my word for 2026 is going to be: patience. If 2025 taught me anything, it’s that some things, no matter how badly you want them, are simply out of your control. You can work at it all you want, but unless the stars are aligned perfectly, it’s not going to happen.
I’m not a very patient person, and I get easily frustrated when things don’t happen the way I want them to. That’s why I think it’s so important to have “patience” be my word for this year. It can serve as a constant reminder that all good things take time, and I need to trust the process. Even if I don’t understand what the process is, with a little patience, I’m hopeful I can still get to the desired end goal.
My “New Year’s Resolution” I suppose would be to make more time for writing. I had a lot of PTO to use in December, and there were a few days where I finally took the time to sit down and work on some of my writing. It had been so long since the last time I’d worked on it, I had to spend a good chunk of time reviewing my notes and what I’d already written just to remind myself where I was at. But it definitely lit a fire in me, and I almost forgot how fun it is to get lost in a story. It can be work too, I won’t deny that. But when you get in a groove and the words just flow – it’s a really good feeling. And I’m hoping to make more time for that this year.
I’m curious to hear what you’ve set as a goal for 2026, or maybe you chose a word for the year as well. Maybe you have a completely different New Year’s tradition. I want to hear about it! Let’s help each other stay accountable and reach our goals.
Here’s to hoping this is the best year yet!
Until next time! 🙂
