Happy belated 4th of July everyone! I hope everyone got a much needed break from work and you were able to celebrate our freedom with your loved ones. My little brother, Nicki, came and visited me for the weekend, and we packed as much fun as we could into a few short days.
He got here on Wednesday, and I picked him up when he landed and showed him how to get to Senator Thune’s office where he met up with his girlfriend, Audrey, for a tour of the capitol. I’m pretty sure Nick has never seen the inside of the capitol before, and when they were done and I met up with them, he said he had learned a lot and that it was pretty cool! It’s even cooler, when you personally know your tour guide!
When I got off work, I met up with them for dinner where I met Audrey for the first time. She is such a nice girl, and I love how happy Nicki seems to be when she’s around. It was great to get to know her a little bit, and we both admit we love DC, but are true South Dakota girls at heart.

Thursday, Nate, Nicki and I spent the day exploring DC. Nicki hasn’t been here since he was in middle school, so there was lots of catching up to do! We spent the morning going through the Holocaust museum until we were so hungry we had to leave and find some lunch. After killing a large pizza in about 5 minutes and then washing it down with some ice cream, we went back to exploring.
We briefly went through the air and space museum, before we met up with Audrey to drop Nicki off. Audrey got tickets to watch Trump’s speech, so she and Nick did that, and Nate and I headed home. Unfortunately, it started pouring on our way home, and didn’t stop until 8, so we weren’t sure if they would even have fireworks or not. Exhausted from all the exploring, we fell asleep before the fireworks anyway! I guess we will just have to wait until next year!
I couldn’t get Friday off of work, so while I was there, Nicki did some more exploring with Audrey until it was time to go home. Since it was so bloody hot out this week, we decided to go to a movie Friday night so we could stay indoors. We had a fancy dinner and then watched Spider-Man together. Felt like the old days when we would all go to the movies as a family! :’)
Saturday, we spent the morning exploring the American history museum and then went to the nationals game in the afternoon. Did I mention how hot it was this weekend?? Holy moly we were melting the whole time! It rained for a few minutes right before the game started, and while most people ran for cover, we stayed and sat in the rain to cool off! Even though the Nats won, and it was a great game, I was thankful when it was over so I could get back to the AC!!

Overall, it was a very busy, fun-filled weekend and I had to take a 3 hour nap today to recoup. I really enjoyed showing my world to Nicki, and I was really glad I was able to meet Audrey!
Nicki, I miss you already and I can’t wait to see you again next month 🙂
Happy 4th y’all!
