Focusing on the Positives

These last two weeks have been very trying on me, where nothing seems to be going right. From car troubles, to foot pain, to getting sick, to losing my glasses, and finally, with Nathan getting surgery earlier this week, there\’s just one thing after the other piling up on top of my shoulders. BUT instead of wallowing in self-pity and creating this long post of me simply whining the whole time, I am going to take this time to talk about all of the things I am looking forward to this year. I have a big year of fun activities coming, and focusing on the positive will help me get through these poopy times.

First of all, Nathan\’s birthday is in two weeks and I can\’t wait to spoil the heck out of him. I love celebrating his day of birth, because without it he wouldn\’t be in my life!! I can\’t imagine how much my life would be different if this special fella wasn\’t in it, so this day is very important to celebrate. Valentine\’s day is also a week after his birthday, and I\’m sure there will be oodles of candy and ice cream and flowers (hopefully 😉 tehe) to look forward to as well. And while I\’m on the topic of Nathan, this May marks five years of us being together! We\’ve been together for almost half a decade already which is absolutely crazy. So, as you can see, Nathan and I have lots to celebrate in these next few months, and I am looking forward to them all.

After one of the many NASCAR races we’ve been to. Hopefully we will have time for more this year!

In April, my parents are planning to come visit me out here in VA. I always love when they come to visit so that I can show them around and pretend to be an expert on living in the Washington D.C. area. I\’ve been here for going on six years now, but there\’s still plenty to learn. It\’s totally different from itty bitty South Dakota that\’s for sure! The main reason they are coming to visit is because we all plan to run the Cherry Blossom 10 miler during the Cherry Blossom Festival where all the flowers will be out in peek bloom. Nate and I ran it last year, and it was so fun, and a great way to get in our sightseeing of the Cherry Blossoms. I am also planning on bringing my parents to a couple of hiking areas that Nate and I go to frequently so I can show them some of my favorite places out here in VA. I\’m definitely looking forward to them coming, and I can\’t wait to get back out there and start training so I don\’t slow them down!!

Their first visit time visiting me back in 2013!

Fast forward all the way to August because my sister is getting married this year!!! How crazy is that? I still can\’t believe we are old enough to be getting married. I am having a lot of fun planning her bridal shower with my mom and I can\’t wait to put it all into action. I plan to use most of my PTO days to go home a week before the wedding so that I can help put things together and wrap up any finishing touches. I also think that we are planning to do the bachelorette party that week as well, so that will be something to look forward to start planning here soon too. It\’s a whole event I can\’t wait to see unfold and I can\’t wait to see how happy my sissy will be once she and Tanner are married.

These are a couple of the big things I have planned this year, along with some surprises that I may have in store 😉 So, even though I have been having a hard time these past few weeks, I know bigger and better things are coming around the corner and I just need to power through until then. Everybody has bad days, and most people are like me and have many bad days in a row, but they are only temporary. Life would be boring if God didn\’t throw us a few challenges every now and again. So next time you find yourself having a bad time, just sit back and take a few minutes to think about all of the things in life you have going right, and things you have to look forward to. I promise it\’ll make getting through those hard times much easier.

Until Next Time Everybody! 🙂
