Fighting the Winter Blues

Sooo anyone else sick of snow yet? I know it’s not just me! I was spoiled last week when I was able to get out and run in the Florida heat. I’m not a huge fan of the heat, but I’ll take it over running in snow any day.

It’s not even the cold that really bothers me. It is literally just the snow. It’s in the way, it’s a pain in the butt to move, people can’t park when there’s no snow and now it’s just a freaking free for all, and it’s a slippery mess.

I want to say a huge thank you to the folks over at Watertown Parks and Rec for keeping paths clear of snow, and for the snowplow folks as well for keeping our roads clear. I’m one of the many, or few people – depending on who you ask I guess – who would MUCH rather run outside, regardless of weather, than go on a treadmill. If I have a clear path to run on, it makes it so much easier to get a run in. And safer too, so that I’m not slipping and sliding on ice packed snow.

I want to take a moment to also thank the fine folks of Watertown who take the time to shovel their sidewalks. It’s the law and technically you’re supposed to do it, but it amazes me how many people don’t. Believe it or not, people still like to get outside, even in the winter! And when I’m out walking my dog and having to trudge through almost knee deep snow in some places, it’s not cool. Then I have to choose between getting my boots filled with snow, or taking my dog into the road. And drivers not watching where they’re going is a whole nother rabbit hole I could go down. But I won’t – at least not this time. 😉

We all have to endure the same long winter. Nobody likes dealing with snow piles taller than us. Let’s try to make it easier on everyone. Drive slower and be patient,  especially when a new or cautious driver is out and about. Clear your sidewalks so people can get outside. Do your best to make an educated guess on where those parking lines are. And for the love of everything Holy, if you see someone running or walking in the road because the sidewalks are piled with snow – slow down and give them space. We’re just trying to keep our sanity out here too.

Spring is only a few weeks away, and before long we’ll be complaining about how hot and humid it is. I can’t wait for those days!

Stay safe, sane, and warm out there!

Until next time! 🙂
