Alright, I’m going to bring out my inner nerd this week because I finally finished the “A Court of Thorns and Roses” (ACOTAR) series – at least the ones that are published. I hear more may be coming.
First, this is not a series I would have necessarily picked up on my own. The “Romantasy” genre is not usually my cup of tea. However, I had several people at work that said I HAD to give this series a chance, so I decided to give it a go. I won’t deny the first book is a little slow getting into – everyone I’ve talked to about this series says the same thing. It’s kind of like Season 1 of the Office – you just gotta power through lol. But once you get about halfway through, it really gets good! By the time you finish the first book, you’ll be dying to start number two and see what happens next.
I saw this “review” of the ACOTAR series and it made me laugh out loud. It’s actually pretty accurate!

If you haven’t read the series yet, go do it and then come back and re read this review. You’ll be giggling too.
Book number two and three were my favorite ones in the series. They were both fast paced, and there was a good mix of romance, suspense, and action – and obviously mythical creatures. And even if you don’t think mythical creatures are your thing – I didn’t either – I still think you should give it a chance. You might be surprised!
Book number four was the shortest of the five books, it was more of an “in-between” book, as the main character point of view changed after book three. I’m not going to lie, books four and five I personally didn’t find as good. And especially book five, it took me a LONG time to get through it. Granted, it’s a 750 page book – these are NOT short books! – and the only time I have to read is before bed, so I usually don’t last long as it is. But I personally felt like book five dragged on a little too long and then the ending felt very rushed. It was still worth reading, and I’m sure others have different opinions, but it personally wasn’t my favorite.
I’m really trying not to give away any spoilers and still convince you to read them, so I’ll stop there. You’ll just have to take my word that I wouldn’t be recommending this series if I didn’t find them really good lol. I don’t have a physical copy of the first two books, but I do have a copy of the last three if anyone wants to borrow them!
Then maybe I’d have someone to nerd out with. I’ve tried explaining things to Dan, but I know he’s never going to read them and it’s just not the same as talking about it with someone who has! And now that it’s finally getting a little chillier outside, there’s no better time to curl up with a good book. I encourage you to give them a try, and you can hold me personally accountable if you don’t like them. 🙂
Happy reading!
Until next time! 🙂
