Farm Wife Life

Harvest is in full swing now and it’s as crazy as it usually is. Dan is gone for longer periods of time, and I never know when I’m going to see him next. He has long days and long nights of harvesting beans and corns, fighting Mother Nature to get it done before the weather turns ugly.

I’ve gotten used to it over the last several years, but I still look forward to when it’s all over. Then Dan can relax and stay home for a while.

Over the last few weeks, Dan and I have been sending each other “farm wife life” reels on Facebook, and they all crack me up. Every farmer’s wife has the same thoughts this time of year it would seem!

This was one that Dan had sent me right before harvest started:

I sent it to my sister as well since her husband is also a farmer, and she goes, “well if that isn’t the truth!”

I’m definitely not making any plans around harvest time with Dan unless it involves being in a tractor. That’s just how it goes!

This next one killed me. I just went almost two weeks without seeing Dan, so sometimes it definitely feels like this!

That I think is one of the hardest parts about harvest time to me. It wouldn’t be so bad if we lived on the farm, but since it’s three hours away, Dan leaves and I never know when he’ll be back. A few days? A few weeks? If I can get down there on the weekends, I will, but sometimes I’m not always able to. And I’m not at that point in our marriage where I look forward to breaks away from him – and I hope we never get to that point – so over a week without him kind of sucks!

This one also made me laugh way harder than it should have:

All these videos make me feel seen haha.

In all seriousness though, as stressful as this time of year can be, I’m very proud of all the hard work Dan puts into the farm. I know how important it is to him to keep it going and he spends countless hours researching how to make it as efficient as possible. I often joke he would leave me before he leaves the farm, and even though he says that isn’t true, I know it would take a whole heck of a lot to get him to abandon that farm.

He knows his dad would want someone to keep it going, and I know he hopes to pass it on to our own kids someday too. Maybe this next reel will be him with our kids:

Everyone say a prayer for the farmers out there! This rain has kept them out of the fields long enough. It’s time to get it done so they can relax a little bit. I know I’m looking forward to Dan being done so he can stay home for a few months.

Until next time! 🙂
