Grateful
It was raining one of the mornings I woke up early to run this week. It wasn’t raining very hard, just enough to be annoying. But it was 4:30 in the morning, and I was already a little cranky about having to wake up to run – adding any amount of rain to the mix didn’t help my attitude towards it.
I was planning to meet with some friends that morning and was selfishly hoping they would bail so I could also bail and go back to sleep. But no one did, so up I went.
I’m glad I did! Even in the rain, I couldn’t help but feel lucky that I had the ability to get up and be moving. As someone who LOVES to exercise, I know when I’m hurt or sick, the feeling of not being able to work out is almost worse than the sickness or injury itself. I would much rather start my day running in the rain than laying in bed without the option to move.
It’s easy to take things like this for granted and fall into a negative train of thought. We often find ourselves thinking, I have to go to work today. I have to squeeze a workout in. I have to wake up early. When instead, we should be saying things like, I get to go kick butt at work today. I get to exercise and move my body. I get to wake up and see another day! Just a small change in words holds a lot of power in how we view our lives. There’s that quote I’m sure most people have heard at one point or another: your life is someone else’s dream, be thankful for everything. Even your worst day might be someone else’s best day.
I need to remind myself of that sometimes. I’m sure we all do. Even when things don’t go according to plan, I need to remember to be thankful for what I do have. I’m grateful for this life that I live now.
Going to keep it short this week. Just wanted to give everyone – myself included – that little reminder!
Until next time! 🙂
