Life Long Commitment

Now commencing the one millionth blog post I’ve written about my dog – sorry not sorry.

I wanted to take another minute to talk about Dobby because he had a bit of a rough week. We took my boy to the vet this week cuz he’s been having a number of issues. He was due for some shots anyway so I decided to kill two birds with one stone and go in and get it all taken care of. He got his shots, and we also found out he as a yeast infection in both ears, and developed a food allergy, causing some issues in his … downstairs region. Nothing a little medicine won’t fix, but I still feel bad for the big guy. He’s basically my kid, and it makes me sad when he’s not feeling good.

It’s the unglamorous side of owning a pet for sure, but it’s worth it when they’re back to their healthy self and being lovable and cuddly again.

That’s the point I want to make here today. And I know I’ve said it a million times already, and I’ll say it a million more – I’ll probably die up on this soap box someday – but I want to stress that owning a pet is not always sunshine and rainbows. It’s WORK and to think otherwise is only fooling yourself.

They’re expensive, they need constant attention and care, they drive you absolutely insane one second, and then the next they make your heart melt into goo. Sounds kind of like a kid, right? But you wouldn’t ditch your kid at the shelter at the first inconvenience they cause, so why do we do it to our pets?

Pets are more than just a cute face and if you can’t commit to taking care of them their entire life then don’t get one.

But if you are looking to adopt a pet – and you understand that they take work – then I strongly encourage you to do so! If you rescue a pet from the shelter, just keep in mind that it may take some patience. Dobby had quite a few issues we had to work through when I first brought him home, but he has come such a long way. It’s not their fault when someone treats them poorly, and they deserve as much love as any other pet does. So please, if you are willing and able, spread the love and adopt a furry friend!

If that cute face doesn’t convince you, I don’t know what will!

That’s the end of my rant – for now anyway. 😇

Until next time! 🙂
