Good News and Bad News

Well, as promised my editor got back to me this week with my manuscript and her feedback, and I have both good news and bad news. The good news is that she genuinely liked my book, and she said my writing was very smooth and natural. She pointed out a few weak spots in my storyline, and believes if I could expand on those parts and flesh out a few more details, it would greatly enhance my story. So, with that being said, the bad news is that I probably won’t be ready to publish now for at least another month – if not more. It all depends on how long it will take me to implement some changes.

The first part of this week seemed to drag on so slow while I waited for her to get back to me. I probably refreshed my email a hundred times, just in case she was finished earlier than planned. Thursday morning, I finally got my manuscript, and I was so excited to read through her notes, that I read through it while I did my sprint work out on the elliptical!

She definitely didn’t say it was perfect, but I knew going into this that it wouldn’t be. If it was, I wouldn’t have bothered to hire an editor in the first place. I needed someone who knew what they were looking for in my story. While all the free help I’ve received has been wonderful, my editor has a lot more experience in this field, and it was great to have a professional take a look. The feedback she gave me was SO incredibly helpful, and she gave me a lot of ideas on how to enhance the problem areas of the book. I asked her questions on some of her feedback and she explained in more depth on how to combat the issue. And she said she’s available as long as I need her to ask any questions, so that is huge!

Her comments have a million different ideas floating around in my head on how to implement some changes and polish up my story. It’s going to take a lot more work, but like I said last week, that’s not going to scare me away from making this dream a reality!

On another note, while I waited for her to get my manuscript back to me, I continued to work on book #2. I hadn’t touched it in a few weeks, but I had some ideas flowin this week, and had to get them down while they were in my head. Unfortunately, now it’s probably going to go back on the back burner until I can get Sink or Swim perfected, but that’s okay! It all takes time and I’ll get to it eventually.

Since the weather in SD decided to be unbearably cold AGAIN this weekend, it sounds like it’ll be a good time to hunker down and get some writing done. Thanks for being on this journey with me, and I can’t wait to give you more updates as I progress!

Until next time! 🙂
