One Step Closer

As many of you probably know by now, I’m cruising at full speed towards becoming a self-published author. My editor started going through my manuscript on Tuesday, and hopefully by the middle of next week, I’ll have her comments back to me. I’m both extremely excited and terrified! I know there are going to be some adjustments to be made, I’m just hoping I don’t have to rework my entire novel. Fingers crossed I’ll have some manageable fixes to make!

I’m also starting to realize that writing the book was probably the easiest part of being a self-published author. I’m doing a ton of research on what all needs to be done before I even launch the book, not to mention what comes after it hits the shelves. It’s a lot!!!! They say that a lot of self-published authors don’t make it very far because they aren’t willing to put in the work, and I’m starting to see why. I basically have two full-time jobs right now! Obviously, I am willing to put in the work, but it’s going to take some time for sure.

To date, I have written the book, revised and reworked it probably half a dozen times, I’ve had at least 6 beta readers go through and make comments which brought some changes, I’ve had my book cover designed, set up a contract with an editor, created a mailing list, AND this week I gave my website a total makeover. Throughout the research I’ve done, I’ve learned that if you have a crappy website, it’s going to hurt you in the long run – shocker, right??

So, after going through my website, I realized it could use some updates. If you have some time, you’ll have to take a look through! Maybe sign up for my email list if you haven’t already. πŸ˜‰

I was telling Dan the other day, that not only was I pretty excited about how my website looks now, but I’m also super proud of myself, because I did it myself. I am not very tech savvy, and when I first launched my website, I had to have the people at WordPress pretty much walk me through everything. So, the fact that I was able to get my website looking as pretty as it does now without any help is actually a pretty huge accomplishment!

Now, to keep researching and trying to be patient in getting my manuscript back. Hope to have an update for y’all next week on what kind of feedback I get!

Stay warm my Midwest friends!!

Until next time! πŸ™‚
