Swimming Through Life

Happy (early) Birthday, Mom!

With all this panic going around about the coronavirus, naturally I thought about writing about that this week. However, I’m sure everyone is getting sick of hearing about it every ten minutes, so I decided I’m not going to go into it. Because life is too short, and too precious to live in fear of something you don’t have much control over. Just wash your hands and be smart!

With that being said, I’d like to take this time to say a very happy birthday to my mom! Her birthday isn’t until St. Patty’s day, but we celebrated over the weekend since Molly and Tanner were home. We all got together at the cabin, and my new boyfriend, Dan, my dad and I made some Chinese food to celebrate. It was great to have Dan come over to meet everyone, and it was a great evening spent celebrating one special lady.

I got my mom this personalized photo frame, filled with a bunch of photos of all of us kids!

My mom has always been there for me through everything, but has especially been there for me this last year. Like I’ve said in earlier blog posts, I had a pretty crappy time last year with a lot of things that went down, and my mom practically dropped everything she was doing to help me get back on my feet. She flew across the country to drive me and my things back to South Dakota from Virginia to get out of a bad relationship, and she – and my dad – were on the phone with me for hours before I moved back to help keep me sane through everything.

Mom and I went on one last run before leaving VA back in September.

When I first came back home, I was really down and I honestly didn’t think things were going to get better for me. My mom constantly reminded me that everything would work out; I would find someone who treats me better, and I would figure out where and what I am supposed to do with my life. No matter how many times she had to say it, she never got impatient with me. Of course, I was constantly in a bad mood and was probably less than patient with everyone and everything at that point in my life, but she stuck with me. She was always by my side when I needed it most, and I could not be more thankful for that.

Before I moved out East – and again now that I’m back in Watertown – people would always come up to me telling me that I am so lucky to have the mom that I have. She is so selfless and will literally do whatever she can to help someone. That is why she became a doctor after all! She’s not just worried about the well-being of her family and friends, but she truly cares about her patients and their loved ones as well. There are many sleepless nights where she will stay at the hospital and make sure her patients are getting the best care possible, not only because it’s her job, but because she wants a positive outcome just as much as they do. There’s a lot of love packed into this tiny human, that’s for sure.

She’s also super helpful taking care of Dobby when I get home later. And Dobby loves his fur grandma!!
The fur babies think she’s the best!!

So, if you see my mom out and about this week, make sure you tell her happy birthday! She deserves to have a wonderful day celebrating her and everything she does for those around her. And make sure you wear green on St. Patrick’s day too! She’s not afraid to pinch ya if you don’t. You’ve been warned!

Happy birthday, mommy! I love you very much, and thank you for everything you do for me. You truly are the best mom there is 🙂

Until next time! 🙂
